Welcome to the New Jersey State House

Built in 1792, the New Jersey State House is the nation’s third-oldest state capitol building, and home to New Jersey’s Executive and Legislative Branches. The State of New Jersey is proud to be the first state capitol in the country to partner with AccessAbleUSA to provide Detailed Access Guides to the capitol complex. The guides featured here will allow New Jerseyans and visitors alike to access their state government and plan their visits to the state capitol with dignity and confidence. 

The capitol complex includes the State House, State House Annex, Legislative Staff Building,  and Security Building. Main entrances are located on W. State Street and at the Governor Richard J. Codey Welcome Center.

The Executive State House houses the Offices of the Governor and Lt. Governor, as well as the Department of the Treasury. For information about state services, department locations, and agencies, visit nj.gov or call the State Operator at 609-292-2121.

The New Jersey Legislature meets for regular session on Mondays and Thursdays from September through June. The public is welcome to attend legislative committee meetings and sessions. Current schedules are available at njleg.gov.

Public tours of the State House are offered Monday through Friday. To schedule a visit, contact the State House Tour Office at 609-847-3150. Additional information is available at njstatehousetours.org.
