About the Security Building

- There is also accessible parking on West State Street, close to the Security Building.
- The Security Building is a small building where staff carry out security checks before visitors can access other buildings in the State House Complex
- The Security Building is only an entry point and cannot be used as an exit point.
- Security checks can also be carried out in the Welcome Center for those attending a public tour.
- Beyond the lobby and check-in desk, there is a security checkpoint where visitors need to pass through a magnetometer and have their belongings scanned through an x-ray machine.
- The opening width of the wider access walk-through security scanner is 32 inches.
- Anyone unable to pass through the magnetometers due to medical conditions or disability accommodations will be rerouted around the magnetometers and scanned using a hand-held metal detector.
- After the security checks, visitors exit the building into the central courtyard from where they can access the State House.
- The Security Building does not have restrooms for public use.
- The security check-in procedure requires visitors to show photo identification and have a digital photo taken. A visitor sticker with this photo is then printed for the visitor to wear.
Entrance
- This entrance is located on West State Street, at the front of the building.

Lobby
- The lobby is located immediately beyond the entrance.
- The lobby is approximately 6ft (2m) from the entrance.
- The most accessible route to the lobby has step-free level access.
- There is step-free level access to the desk.
- The height of the desk is 3ft 6in (107cm).
- The lowered section of the desk is at a height of 2ft 6in (77cm).
- The desk has windows that may affect the ability of someone to lip read.
- There is no (or very little) background noise.
- Some flooring is shiny and patterned.
- Lighting levels vary due to the presence of large glass panels/windows.
- There is space for a wheelchair user to maneuver (60in x 60in - 1525mm x 1525mm).
- Guests can maneuver around the magnetometers, if needed, with the assistance of security personnel.
Exit to Courtyard
- This exit is located at the rear of the security building.
- There is step-free level access at the exit.
- The exit area is not clearly signed.
- There are double automatic doors at this exit.
- The doors open away from you.
- There is a push plate/sensor at a height of 3ft 1in (94cm).
- The doors have lever handles.

- The doors have a high visual contrast.
- There is a second set of double automatic doors.
- The second set of doors open away from you.
- There is a push plate/sensor at a height of 1ft 3in (40cm).
- The doors have push bars.
- The width of the opening is 5ft 5in (167cm).
- The doors have a high visual contrast.
- There is step-free level access as you enter the exit.
- This exit leads out to the State House Complex courtyard.
