About

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is mostly step-free via slopes of varying degrees of gradient. The approach to the ML-12 entrance is stepped.
  • There is step-free access to level 1 of the building only, and you need to use certain entrances for this.
  • Mary Lyons Hall has 6 entrances, 3 entrances provide step-free access via slopes.
  • The entrances are signed as ML-1, ML-5, ML-6, ML-9, ML-10 and ML-12.
  • The ML-1 entrance gives direct access to the lobby and lounge on level 1, which provides stepped access to the basement and level 2.
  • Entrances ML-5, ML-9 and ML-12 have stepped access with manual doors.
    Entrances ML-6 and ML-10 have sloped access with manual doors.

Getting Around

  • It is not possible to bypass all steps once inside the building.
  • On level 2, there are 2 sets of steps and ramps.
    The first set has 2 steps at a height of 7in (18cm) with a minimum tread depth of 12in (30cm). The handrails are at a height of 2ft 10in (86cm).
    The ramp is 2ft 2in (65cm) wide and has a gradient of 13%.
    The second set has 2 steps at a height of 7in (18cm) with a minimum tread depth of 12in (30cm). The handrails are at a height of 2ft 7in (80cm). The ramp is 2ft 2in (65cm) wide and has a gradient of 12%.
  • On level 3, there are 2 sets of steps and ramps.
    The first set has 2 steps at a height of 7in (18cm) with a minimum tread depth of 12in (30cm). The handrails are at a height of 2ft 10in (86cm). The ramp is 2ft 2in (65cm) wide and has a gradient of 12%.
    The second set has 2 steps at a height of 7in (17cm) with a minimum tread depth of 11in (29cm). The handrails are at a height of 2 ft 7 inches (80cm). The ramp is 2ft 2in (65cm) wide and has a gradient of 12%.
  • There is a step at a height of 5.5in (14cm) between the bike storage at the rear of the building and the level 1 lounge area.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with some having a shiny finish, or carpeted and smooth.
  • There are resting areas in some lobby areas with bench seating.
  • Wayfinding signage and floor plans are provided in circulation routes and lobby areas to assist people in finding their way around.
  • There is not a designated safe or quiet space.
