About

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the building is step-free via slopes with varying degrees of gradient.
  • There is step-free level access to all areas of the building once inside, via the elevator.
  • Beardsley Hall has 3 entrances. The accessible entrance - BE-4 provides step-free access (via slope). This entrance has a single automatic door.
  • The entrances are signed as "Accessible Entrance - Beardsley Hall - BE-4", "Beardsley Hall - BE-1", and "Beardsley Hall - BE-2".
  • BE-4 provides access to the first floor, where you enter the building adjacent to the elevator. Utilizing this, there is then step-free level access to the second and third floors of the building.
  • The BE-1 entrance has step-free access (via a slope with a grade of 7.9%) with a single, manual door that has a locked extension leaf. It gives access to a mezzanine level on the south stairway, between the first floor and the second floor. There are 4 steps down to the first floor and 15 steps up to the second floor from this entrance.
    The BE-2 entrance has step-free level access with a single, manual door that has a locked extension leaf. It gives access to a mezzanine level on the north stairway, between the first floor and the second floor. There are 5 steps down to the first floor and 14 steps up to the second floor from this entrance.

Getting Around

  • There is step-free level access throughout the building on all floors once inside, via elevator.
  • Floor surfaces along all circulation routes are hard and smooth, with a shiny vinyl finish that incorporates bold contrasting colors in places.
  • There are resting areas in circulation and lobby areas throughout the building, with a mixture of seating.
  • Wayfinding signage and floor plans are provided along circulation routes throughout the building, to assist people in finding their way around.
  • There is not a designated safe or quiet space.

  • Multiple-stall Restrooms with Accessibility Features View
    • The multiple-stall restrooms with accessibility features are located to the right and then straight ahead along the corridor as you enter the building via the accessible entrance - BE-4.
    • The transfer space within the multiple-stall restrooms with accessibility features varies between left hand transfer and right hand transfer.
    • The male restroom with accessibility features has a right hand transfer. The female restroom with accessibility features has a left hand transfer.

Entrance (Accessible Entrance - BE-4)

  • This entrance is located to the rear of the building, leading in from the courtyard opposite Martin Hall.
  • There is step-free access via a slope at the entrance.

  • The entrance area is clearly signed.
  • There is not a canopy or recess that provides weather protection at the entrance.

Elevator

  • The elevator is located immediately to the left as you enter the building via the accessible entrance - BE-4.
  • The elevator surveyed is approximately 3yd 10in (3m) from the accessible entrance - BE-4.
  • The most accessible route to the elevator has step-free level access.
  • The floors which are accessible by this elevator are first, second, third and 3R.
  • The elevator has a turning space of 30in x 48in (760mm x 1220mm) in front of it.
  • The external elevator control buttons have a medium visual contrast.
