Overview

  • About View
    • The Pilates Studio is a boutique Pilates studio located on the second floor of Fountain Square Mall on the courthouse square in downtown Bloomington.
      The owners of The Pilates Studio are Lisa Farnsworth and Jesolyn Lucas. They are both classically-trained Pilates instructors with more than 50 years of experience between them, including experience working with clients with disabilities.
    • Services available in the venue include: mat classes, private sessions and duets on Gratz Pilates equipment.

    • There is step-free level access via elevator at the most accessible entrance.

Getting Inside

  • Fountain Square Mall sits on a slope occupying one city block on W. Kirkwood Ave. between S. Walnut St. and S. College St. When approaching from the south, there is an upward slope.
  • There is step-free access to most areas of Fountain Square Mall via elevators. This includes some ramped areas.
  • There are six main entrances to Fountain Square Mall and all are step-free. Individual storefronts facing W. Kirkwood Ave. also have their own entrances.
  • The entrances are the S. Walnut St. entrance (detailed in this guide), the main entrance on W. Kirkwood Ave., the west entrance on W. Kirkwood Ave., the S. College Ave. entrance, the entrance from the parking garage level 2 bridge, and the rear entrance.
  • The S. Walnut St. entrance gives access via ramp to the lower level lobby, lower level shops, and the east elevator, which provides access to the three upper floors.
  • Doors at all Fountain Square Mall entrances are manual.

Restrooms and Changing Facilities Available

  • Fountain Square Mall has male and female multiple-stall restrooms on every floor.
  • Some of these restrooms have grab bars, but the only fully wheelchair-accessible restrooms are the single-occupant male and female restrooms located on the west end of lower level.
  • There are standard male and restrooms located next to The Pilates Studio on the second floor.
  • Single-occupant Restrooms with Accessibility Features View
    • There are 2 single-occupant restrooms with accessibility features.
    • These are separate male and female single-occupant restrooms with accessibility features.
    • The single-occupant restrooms with accessibility features are located on the lower level at the west end of the building.
    • The transfer space within the single-occupant restrooms with accessibility features varies between left hand transfer and right hand transfer.
    • All restrooms in Fountain Square Mall require a key to use, with the exception of the standard restrooms nearest the S. Walnut St. entrance, which are open when the building is open.
      Restroom keys are available from staff at all businesses inside Fountain Square Mall.

Entrance (S. Walnut St.)

  • There is a canopy or recess that provides weather protection at the entrance.

  • The doors opens towards you.

Access To (The Pilates Studio)

  • The Pilates Studio is located on the second floor of Fountain Square Mall in Suite 236A. The studio has two entrances, one of which is step-free.
  • The most accessible route has an elevator and manual doors with doorknobs.
  • The flooring is a mixture of hard and carpeted.
  • The flooring is patterned.
  • The step-free entrance to the studio is along the hallway to the right upon exiting the elevator on the second floor. The stepped entrance to the studio is along the hallway to the left upon exiting the elevator. This hallway has a steep ramp.
  • The ramp has a gradient of 1:8.
  • There is a step-free level resting area.
  • There are 5 steps.
  • There are handrails on both sides.
  • The handrails are easy to grip.
  • The height of the handrails is 2ft 11in (90cm).
  • The handrails cover the flight of stairs throughout its length.
  • The steps are unmarked.
  • The height of the highest step is 5in (15cm).
  • The minimum tread depth is 1ft 0in (31cm).
  • Clients who can use the stepped entrance are encouraged to do so because there is a large landing where shoes and belongings can be stored.

    • The doors are easy to open.
    • The doors have doorknobs.
    • The width of the opening is 2ft 10in (87cm).
  • Gym Details View
    • There is step-free level access throughout.
    • There is space for a wheelchair user to maneuver (60in x 60in - 1525mm x 1525mm).
    • The gym is staffed when open.
    • The flooring is carpet.
    • There is a high visual contrast between the walls and floor.
    • There is clear maneuvering space between equipment (30in x 48in - 760mm x 1220mm).
    • Gratz Pilates equipment in the studio includes: Reformer, Tower, Armchair, Wundachair, Ped-O-Pul, Foot Corrector, Magic Circles, Barrels.

Elevator (east elevator)

  • The elevator surveyed is approximately 32ft (10m) from the S. Walnut St. entry doors.
  • The most accessible route to the elevator has ramps/slopes.
  • The ramp has a gradient of 1:11.
  • There is a step-free level resting area.
  • The floors which are accessible by this elevator are lower level (LL), 1, 2, 3.
  • The elevator has a turning space of 30in x 48in (760mm x 1220mm) in front of it.
  • The external elevator control buttons have tactile markings and a low visual contrast.
  • All of the external elevator controls are at a suitable height for a wheelchair user (between 15in - 48in (380mm - 1220mm)).
  • The elevator door has a low visual contrast.
  • The elevator door opening width is 3ft 7in (110cm).
  • The internal dimensions of the elevator are 6ft 7in width x 4ft 7in depth (203cm x 140cm).
