Overview

  • About View
    • The Grant Street Inn is an independent hotel featuring 40 guest rooms spread across five historic and one new building - the Ziegler House, the Gilstrap House, the Dargan House, the Buttercup Cottage, the Hoosier House.
      The Hoosier House is a LEED-certified building built in 2012 and featuring 4 ADA accessible rooms.

    • There is step-free access via ramp at the most accessible entrance.

    • The following areas have stepped access: the reception area and Ziegler House (Rooms 21-29), the Hoosier House (Rooms 60-73), the Dargan House (Rooms 40-48), and the Buttercup Cottage (Rooms 50-51).

Parking (all parking lots)

  • Accessible Parking Spaces View
    • There are three parking lot options at the Grant Street Inn: the main parking lot, which is directly north of the main building and guest registration; the overflow parking lot, which is behind the main parking lot and continues around the adjacent Dargan House building; and the Hoosier House parking lot. The designated accessible parking spaces are in the overflow lot and the Hoosier House lot.

    • There are 2 designated van accessible parking spaces available.
    • The van accessible parking spaces are clearly marked.
    • The van accessible parking space width is 10ft 10.71in (332cm).
    • There is an adjacent marked access aisle to one side.

    • Designated accessible parking spaces:
    • Hoosier House lot: There are no painted markings on the parking spaces in the Hoosier House lot; however, there is patterned brickwork delineating the van-accessible space and the adjacent access aisle. This spot is signposted.
    • Overflow lot: The van accessible space in the overflow lot is 10 ft. 2 in. wide and the adjacent marked access aisle is 9 ft. 5 in. wide. This space is not signposted. The overflow lot entrance is located behind the Buttercup Cottage and extends all the way to the corner of 8th and Grant St.
      Once you enter the lot, the ADA space is all the way at the end and to the left, on the north side of the Dargan House. There is a ramp with a slight slope that leads from the parking space directly to Grant St. across from the Hoosier Houses.

  • Passenger Loading Zone View
    • There is not a designated passenger loading zone available.
  • Public Parking View
    • Guests staying in one of the ADA rooms in the Hoosier House should use the adjacent parking lot with the van-accessible parking space.
      Guests staying in any of the other buildings may park in the van accessible space in the overflow lot, or call ahead to ask for the extra-wide parking space in the main parking lot to be reserved for them.

Getting Inside

  • The approach to the main building, which is comprised of the Ziegler House and the Gilstrap House connected by a breezeway, and to the Hoosier House is step-free via ramps.
  • There is also stepped access to these two buildings. The ramps bypass the steps.
    Three additional buildings are only accessed via steps.
  • There are two separate entrances to the main building. The ramped entrance gives step-free access to the breezeway and the Gilstrap House side. The stepped entrance gives access to the Ziegler House side that contains the lobby and registration desk.
    There are two entrances to Hoosier House. One entrance is stepped only, and the other can be accessed via ramp or steps.
  • The stepped entrance at the Ziegler House has the words, "Guest Registration" painted in black above the stairs on the porch fascia board.
  • The most accessible entrances give access to the dining room in the breezeway and the guest rooms in the Gilstrap House, and to the entry hall of the Hoosier House.
  • All other entrances to the Grant Street Inn buildings are stepped.
  • The main building is comprised of the Ziegler House on the left, the Gilstrap House on the right, and the breezeway that connects the two buildings and also houses the dining room.
  • To get to the registration desk in the Ziegler House portion, there are 3 steps.
  • Staff regularly bring registration materials to the breezeway seating area for guests that cannot or prefer not to climb steps.

Getting Around

  • The following areas have stepped access: the lobby and registration desk are accessed by three steps from the breezeway.
  • Access throughout may include manual doors with doorknobs.
  • The flooring is carpeted.
  • The flooring is patterned in some areas.
  • There is a high visual contrast between the walls and floor in the majority of walkways.
  • There is no (or very little) background noise.
  • Wayfinding signage is not provided.
  • Seating available in the walkways includes: chairs with armrests, chairs without armrests and high stools.
  • Lighting levels were even at the time of the survey.
  • Lighting levels are adjustable in some areas.
  • Staff will always meet guests who cannot climb steps in the breezeway seating area to facilitate check in.

Restrooms and Changing Facilities Available

  • All guest rooms have their own full bathrooms. There is a stand-alone restroom for use by guests and visitors near the breezeway, which is detailed here.
  • Single-occupant Restrooms with Accessibility Features View
    • There is 1 single-occupant restroom with accessibility features.
    • This is an all-gender single-occupant restroom with accessibility features.
    • The single-occupant restroom with accessibility features is located just inside the doors from the breezeway to the Gilstrap house, on the left.
    • The single-occupant restroom with accessibility features has no transfer space available.
    • This restroom has a narrow door and does not have space for a wheelchair to maneuver; however, it has grab bars next to the toilet. The restroom door is not signed.
  • Changing Facilities View
    • The restroom does not have a baby changing table.

Entrance (Accessible entrance to main building breezeway)

  • This entrance is located on the east side of Grant Street, between the Ziegler House and the Gilstrap House.
  • There is step-free access via ramp at the entrance.
